COMBINATION OF NRA AND RI QUALIFICATION

                 THIS IS A COMBINATION OF BOTH THE FULL NRA COURSE AND RI PISTOL QUALIFICATION


The below are the RI requirements, no RI classroom required. The NRA Pistol Course requires live lecture, textbook and PowerPoint  presentation to meet the NRA requirements.  Range time for NRA Pistol Course and RI Range Time to qualify are both required.

The following persons are certified to grade your targets. The range officer of the Rhode Island state police, the range officer of any city or town police department maintaining a regular and continuing firearms training program, a
pistol instructor certified by the National Rifle Association and/or the United States Revolver Association, and any other qualified persons that the attorney general may designate are authorized to certify the qualification required by §§ 11-47-15 and 11-47-15.1. The certification required by §§ 11-47-15, 11-47-15.1 and § 11-47-15.3 shall be accomplished on a form to be prescribed by the attorney general.

You will NOTE that the RI pistol certification is requiring an ARMY-L target. The correct name is Army-L target. The requirements for qualification is as follows:


RI Gen Law § 11-47-15. Proof of ability required for license or permit.

No person shall be issued a license or permit to carry a pistol or revolver concealed upon his or her person until he or she has presented certification as prescribed in § 11-47-16
that he or she has qualified with a pistol or revolver of a caliber equal to or larger than the one he or she intends to carry, that qualification to consist of firing a score of one hundred ninety-five (195) or better out of a possible score of three hundred (300) with thirty (30) consecutive rounds at a distance of twenty-five (25) yards on the Army “L” target, firing “slow” fire. The “slow” fire course shall allow ten (10) minutes for the firing of each of three (3) ten (10) shot strings.

The Rhode Island Attorney General has promulgated a form that has to be submitted with your application. The below form has to be signed by the NRA instructor and he/she has to provide a copy of the NRA Certification as an instructor:   COST $450.00

That means you have to shoot 20 rounds into a  Round Ringed target at 75 feet to obtain a score of  200.  Each round is worth 10 points. If you shoot 19 rounds you don't pass.  We will provide you with 60 rounds of ammunition of your caliber.  You can have as many attempts as you want, however, after the first 60 rounds you have to supply the ammunition..

Directions:

     From Providence, RI or points north, enter  Rt. I-195 East and drive approximately 8 miles to Exit 5, Make a left onto Rt 6 east and follow that 3 traffic lights to Swansea Mall Drive.  Make a left onto Swansea Mall Drive and about 2 blocks on the right is the former Liberty Travel.  That is where classes are now held

     From Fall River or points East take RT I-195 West to Exit 8.  Make a left off the exit onto Rt 6 east. There is a sign directing you to Swansea Mall.  At the next traffic light make a left onto Swansea Mall Drive.  We are located in the former Liberty Travel office.  That is were classes are now held.
